Los Angeles Yacht Club encourages all to join in the fun of St. Patrick’s Day Poker Run — including those without a boat

LOS ANGELES—Looking to spot the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow on St. Patrick’s Day? Los Angeles Yacht Club (LAYC) cordially invites the public, even those who do not have a dinghy, the chance at the Luck of the Irish Floating Poker Run on March 17 from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Attendees will sail through Cabrillo Marina, Holiday Harbor and Cabrillo Way Marina with five host boats passing out randomly selected playing cards and refreshments. Afterwards at the Clubhouse, there will be a luncheon and winners will be awarded the Pot O’ Gold prizes.

Keith Duchene, a member of LAYC and organizer for the event, wrote in an email to The Log: “LAYC wants to emphasize that this event is open to the public and that club members will provide dinghy space for those that want to participate but don’t have a boat. Our goal is to expose as many as possible to the Los Angeles Yacht Club and our wonderful members. Los Angeles Yacht Club turned 118 years old this year and has a century’s worth of memories and traditions that many in this region are not aware of or taking advantage of.”

Only 75 spaces will be available for reservations, so Duchene advises reserving a spot as soon as possible. The cost to participate is $20. Those who do not have a dinghy, kayak or standup paddleboard may be allowed to ride along in another’s dinghy.

Los Angeles Yacht Club is located at 285 Whalers Walk.

To RSVP, email reservations@LAYC.org or call 310-831-1203. Visit LAYC.org to learn more.
