Newport Plans Abandoned Boat Auction, May 10

NEWPORT BEACH — Potential boat buyers in search of a bargain just might find their first — or next — boat at the city of Newport Beach’s Abandoned Vessel Auction, at 9 a.m. May 10.

Hosted by the city’s Harbor Resources Division, the boat auction gives the public an opportunity to bid on dinghies, kayaks and some larger boats that have been recovered throughout the year.

The boat auction will be held at the Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol facility, at 1901 Bayside Drive. Viewing will be open to the public between 8 and 9 a.m.

Vessels up for auction will include pedal boats, kayaks, paddleboards, inflatables, Sabots, canoes and skiffs. The minimum bid varies by vessel, and payment must be made in cash. Vessels will be sold “as is, where is.”

State-registered vessels with CF numbers will be retained by the Harbor Department for a 10-day redemption period following the auction. The successful bidder will be responsible for removing the vessel from the Harbor Department facility by 5 p.m. the day following the end of the redemption period. All other vessels must be removed by 5 p.m. on the day of the auction.
