Port of San Diego accepts surrendered vessels grant

The Port of San Diego accepted nearly $100,000 in funding from California’s Division of Boating and Waterways.

The port district’s Board of Port Commissioners voted to accept the DBW grant, which totaled $96,876, at their Oct. 10 meeting.

Port district staff stated the grant, which comes from DBW’s Surrendered and Abandoned Vessel Exchange (SAVE) program, would be used “for the abatement, removal, storage and/or disposal of eligible water hazards and eligible surrendered vessels.”

“This grant will provide unbudgeted, unanticipated funding for the removal and disposal of surrendered vessels and other navigational hazards,” port district staff continued.

The port district must provide 10 percent in matching funds as part of the grant acceptance.
