SAN DIEGO—A National Insurance Crime Bureau report released June 3 has ranked San Diego number four on a list of the top five cities for watercraft theft last year.
According to the nonprofit crime-prevention agency, San Diego had 34 thefts in 2019. The city came in behind Fort Lauderdale, Sacramento and Tampa, and ahead of Miami.
The top five states for boat thefts in 2019, were Florida, with 942; California, 475; Texas, 332; North Carolina, 193; and South Carolina, 147, according to the agency.
The total of 4,240 reported watercraft thefts over the year across the country represented a decrease of 6 percent from 2018, NICB reported.
