San Diego International Boat Show drops anchor June 19-22

SAN DIEGO – Potential boat buyers will have plenty of options during the 2014 Progressive Insurance San Diego International Boat Show, June 19-22. The four-day show will cruise into Harbor Island with more than 100 vessels, from entry-level family cruisers to superyachts.

The 2014 show provides attendees an opportunity to discover – and enjoy – the boating lifestyle. Guests can check out the latest in new boats and marine accessories, tour more than 100 vessels from personal watercraft to luxury, motor and sailing yachts. There will be an estimated 60 percent power and 40 percent sailboat mix at the show.

The San Diego International Boat Show is produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), the world’s largest producer of boat shows and the leading trade association representing the recreational boating industry, in partnership with the California Yacht Brokers Association (CYBA) and the San Diego Superyacht Association.

An expanded selection of superyachts will be docked in the marina and staged on land for visitors to browse, board and buy.

“Working in conjunction with the San Diego Superyacht Association, they are pulling out all the stops to make this show a big yacht show,” said Dave Geoffroy, vice president for the National Marine Manufacturer’s Association. “We will have around 150 boats.”

For those who prefer to try rather than merely look boaters of all ages and experience levels can participate in a variety of activities including stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and sailing at “Try It Cove.” Boaters can also sharpen up their skills with boating and sailing lessons on the water or through free seminars at “Fred’s Shed Interactive Learning Center,” with topics ranging from navigation to engine maintenance.

Learn to scuba at the “Be a Diver Pool” where a certified instructor will teach anyone ages 10 and older how to scuba dive. Hourly educational seminars will be held throughout the event and free sailing lessons will be offered using a sailing simulator.

“We will also have the board it and see what that is like,” Geoffroy said. “It will also be staffed by Vietnam veterans.”

Food, beverages and live entertainment will also be available for purchase.

The 2014 Progressive Insurance San Diego International Boat Show will be held Thursday, June 19 and Friday, June 20 from noon to 7 p.m.; Saturday, June 21 from10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, June 22 from 10a.m. to 6p.m. Admission is $12 for Adults (16 years and  older); free for children 15 years and under; and active military , fire and police personnel are free with proper identification.
