San Diego’s BAE Systems recognized for ‘Good Neighbor’ efforts

SAN DIEGO — Port of San Diego and city of San Diego officials joined BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair at a press conference on Sept. 22 to highlight the shipyard’s work to alleviate parking issues in Barrio Logan.

The event took place on the rooftop of the parking garage for the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, managed by Ace Parking, one of the places where BAE Systems employees are now parking off-site in order to reduce parking impacts in neighborhoods around the shipyard. Other measures taken include: adjusting shift times and offering shuttle buses for employee commutes.

“BAE Systems represents a major and important workforce along the waterfront, and its business activity has contributed to the parking problems within the Barrio Logan community,” said Councilmember David Alvarez. “Having grown up in this community, I witnessed firsthand the parking challenges that have existed and since I took office, one of my top priorities has been addressing parking solutions for this area. BAE Systems’ efforts to address these issues, along with its other community contributions, demonstrates that its leadership cares about the neighborhoods and the people who live, work and visit here.”
