San Diego Sunroad Boat Show Set for Jan. 24-27

SAN DIEGO — Now in its fourth year, the San Diego Sunroad Boat Show is looking to grow along with its increasing popularity, with plans to include more than 100 boats at its in-water display.

The show has been hosted by Sunroad Resort Marina since 2010. For nearly 20 years previous, the National Marine Manufacturers Association had produced a winter San Diego Boat Show. When NMMA closed its San Diego office and announced it would no longer be producing the boat show, Sunroad Resort Marina manager Jim Behun stepped in, working with local marine industry professionals to create a new show and keep the tradition going.

While the show’s previous in-water displays included around 50 to 75 boats, Behun said the show will be expanding this year with an in-water display of more than 100 new and previously owned sailboats and powerboats. Additional marine vendors with the latest nautical products and services.

Attendees will be able to enjoy free boat rides, along with boating seminars and music. Food and beverages will also be available at the show.

The Port of San Diego will host a seminar at noon Jan. 26 and 27 discussing the Hull Paint Conversion Project grant designed to help San Diego boaters offset the cost of switching from conventional antifouling bottom paints to new environmentally friendly non-biocide coatings.

Boaters looking for information on cruising south of the border can attend Dick Markie’s “Cruising Mexico” seminars at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 26 and 27. Markie designed, built and managed Paradise Village Marina in Puerto Vallarta and has years of experience cruising in Mexico.

Show hours are noon-6 p.m. Jan. 24-25 and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Jan. 26-27.

General parking is $10 at the corner of Harbor Drive and Harbor Island Drive. A shuttle service is included.

Boat show admission is $12 for adults; free for children younger than 12. Military, EMT, police and fire personnel will be admitted free on Jan. 24 and Jan. 25, with proper identification.

Sunroad Resort Marina is located at 955 Harbor Island.
