San Salvador receives final plank

SAN DIEGO –The San Salvador, a 100-foot full-rigged galleon that served as the flagship for explorer Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo in 1542, received its final plank, Wednesday, July 2  at the ship’s rebuild sits at the Maritime Museum of San Diego. The final plank, known as the Whiskey Plank, was put in place by the crew who has been working to reconstruct the vessel.

Although the ship is far from completion, shipbuilders often mark the installation of the final plank as a major milestone in the construction of a ship. For more information on the ship’s rebuild, visit sdmaritime.org.
