Sea Chantey Fest to be held Aug. 3 Aboard Star of India

SAN DIEGO – The Maritime Museum of San Diego along with San Diego Heritage, will host the 22nd annual Sea Chantey Fest aboard the museum’s Star of India, Aug. 3.

For centuries, sailor’s have honed their shipboard skills to the cadence of songs recounting the adventure, tragedy and romance of life at sea, according to the museum.

The daylong event will be filled with sea chanteys and traditional folk music performed by local and national artists such as The Jackstraws, The Bilge Pump Band, Gilman Carver and more.

During the event, the Star of India sail crew will demonstrate various shipboard skills traditionally accompanied by sea chanteys and visitors will have a chance to join in and raise the sails of the ship.

The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Adult museum admission is $16; children 12 and younger are $8. The museum is located on the North Embarcadero, at 1492 N. Harbor Drive.
