Ventura Harbor to Host Pirate Days

VENTURA — Grab your doubloons and perfect your pirate slang, as Ventura Harbor Pirate Days sails into Ventura Harbor Village July 13-14. The annual festival is designed to attract “pirates” of all ages to the family friendly event.

Set to the theme of “Set Yer Sails,” Ventura Harbor Pirate Days features famous pirate Capt. Jack Sparrow and Capt. Hook, along with their crews of scalawags.

Free entertainment will be offered during the two-day festival — which includes the Pirate’s Cove Marketplace, where event-goers can shop for pirate garb; and the Port Royal Privateers, a historical encampment that puts pirates on display.

Pirates for Hire crew will entertain the crowd with daily pirate and adult costume contests. The winner will receive a ticket to SeaWorld in San Diego. Pets are also encouraged to dress to impress and enter the Pet Pirate Costume Contest, at 3 p.m. July 13.

Aspiring pirates can learn to tie a knot at Shipwreck Cove or stock up on pirate hats, swords, eye patches and other merchandise at several of the village shops. Purchases of $20 or more at participating Ventura Harbor Village boutique stores enter buyers for a chance to win $100 in golden dollar coins.

The tall ship Bill of Rights will be dockside and open for tours. A tall ship sail is planned from 4-7 p.m., July 13 and 14. Tickets can be purchased online at AmericanTallShip.org. Photos with pirates and a treasure hunt for younger visitors will also take place.

Tickets are available for an Island Packers Pirate Dinner Cruise that leaves the dock at 7 p.m. July 14 and cruises Ventura Harbor. Tickets can be purchased at IslandPackers.com and includes live music by Ship of Fools and dinner.

Event admission, parking and shuttle buses are free. Pirate Days shuttle parking is available at Schooner Drive and Harbor Boulevard or at Schooner Drive and Anchors Way Drive, from noon-5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Catch the new Downtown-Harbor Trolley from hotels, Amtrak/Ventura Fairgrounds or downtown for a free ride to the festival.

Ventura Harbor Pirate Days will run from 1- 4.p.m. July 13-14 at Ventura Harbor Village, 1583 Spinnaker Drive, off Harbor Boulevard. More information can be found at  VenturaHarborVillage.com, on Facebook (Ventura Harbor/Pirate Days) or by calling (805) 477-0470, ext. 5.
