On the Radar: The Corinthian Cup continues 20-year race tradition

REDONDO BEACH — The Marina del Rey and King Harbor boating communities will come together once again May 28-29 to sail in the annual Corinthian Cup hosted by Redondo Beach and South Coast Corinthian yacht clubs.

The clubs have been co-hosting the event for more than two decades in an effort to bring sailors together on the water. For two days colorful spinnakers and billowing sails will fill local waters as more than 20 vessels race to the finish line in King Harbor and Marina del Rey.

There are three race classes: PHRF, Cruisers 30 feet and under, and Cruisers over 30 feet.

Leg One starts at 1 p.m., on May 28 just outside the Marina del Rey breakwater with the finish at the King Harbor breakwater. Racers are invited to dock in the harbor and enjoy dinner at Redondo Beach YC.

The event continues on May 29 with Leg Two as sailors race from just outside King Harbor to finish inside the breakwater at Marina del Rey. The day concludes with a light dinner and trophy presentation at South Coast Corinthian YC.
