With absurd increases on sportboat ticket prices and increased parking fees, the landings are now charging a 3.50 percent credit card fees on ticket purchases. Although it might be “it is what it is,” H&M Landing is charging it on cash purchases, which I have been told is illegal. Point Loma and Fisherman’s Landing charge the same fees and when I inquired on why, I was told it is for credit fees. When you ask H&M they give you the run around on what the fee is for.

These landings have monopolized the industry and are gouging the public. The blue collar worker can hardly afford to fish anymore and any penny saved is cherished but now we are being ripped off by H&M Landing for spending our hard earned cash by paying a 3.50 percent service fee. Any help, exposure or clarification is greatly appreciated. Sincerely,

James Kent

RE: California Coastal Commission launches presentation series on sea level rise (issue Aug. 9-22)

The Eel River is what created Humbolt Bay, it is now diverted to exit to the south not through Humboldt Bay. By not replenishing the silt that forms the basis for the wet lands you wind up with mud falls and open water. Ocean levels rising? Not a new thing that is why there are sharks in Bakersfield. Remember this one: U.N. Predicts Disaster if Global Warming Not Checked, June 30, 1989. Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

RE: Catalina Island’s historic Hotel Atwater finishes makeover ahead of 100th birthday (Aug. 9-22)

Wow!! Amazing makeover!! Sure didn’t look like that when we called the hotel the ‘Ratwater’. Not the crudest place in town anymore!! Beautiful! Just guessing it won’t be $68 a night, anymore…
