Barney Lehman Championship rescheduled for Nov. 17-18

Newport Harbor Yacht Club’s regatta was originally scheduled for Oct. 27-28.

NEWPORT BEACH — Lehman 12 boats will be competing against each other to claim the top spot in this year’s championship run, as Newport Harbor Yacht Club will finally host the Barney Lehman Championship, Nov. 17-18. The single-handed regatta was originally scheduled for Oct. 27 and 28, as originally reported in The Log’s Oct. 19 issue.

All boats must be sailed single-handed, and crews must meet weight requirements. Boats will be measured for main sail, crew weight and boat weight. Compliance will be randomly monitored during the regatta. Measurements will specifically be conducted between 9 and 11 a.m. on Nov. 17. A Lehman 12 annual meeting and lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m., also on Nov. 17, followed by a competitors’ meeting at 12:30 p.m. and first warning at 1 p.m.

Racing is expected to finish at 4:30 p.m. on the first day; the second day will feature racing from 1 to 4 p.m., with a trophy presentation scheduled once competition is over.

Sailing instructions will be provided to all competitors on Nov. 17. The racing area will be in Newport Beach Harbor, north of the yacht club’s main dock.

The regatta’s first place finisher (“A” division) will be awarded the Barry Lehman Perpetual Trophy.
