Cal Race Week and Cal Cup comes to Marina del Rey

California Yacht Club will host second Pac 52 regatta and one-design race.

LOS ANGELES — The second leg of the Pac52 Class season will take place June 1-3 as part of the California Cup (June 1-3) in Marina del Rey. Also coming to the largest recreational boating harbor in Los Angeles County is 2018 Cal Race Week (June 2-3). Both events are held at California Yacht Club in Marina del Rey.

California Cup

Participation in the California Cup is for the Pac52 Class and by invitation only, according to the Notice of Race.

The racing committed has schedule eight races for the California Cup Regatta – three on June 1, three on June 2 and two on June 3.

Sailing Instructions for the California Cup regatta will be posted online on May 27. Visit calyachtclub.com/regattas for more information.

Racing will take place on Santa Monica Bay west of the Marina del Rey breakwater; the course will be a windward/leeward format.

Awards will be presented after racing is completed on June 3; names of the winners will be inscribed onto the California Cup Perpetual Trophy.

The first Pac52 Class event was held May 4-6 at San Diego Yacht Club; Frank Slootman and Invisible Hand took first place honors at the 2018 Yachting Cup.

On tap for the Pac52 Class after the California Cup are: 2018 Long Beach Race Week (June 22-24 at Long Beach Yacht Club); 2018 Rolex Big Boat Series (Sept. 13-16 at St. Francis Yacht Club); and, 2018 Pac52 Cup (Sept. 28-30 at St. Francis YC).

Cal Race Week

California YC will also host Cal Race Week, June 2-3, at Marina del Rey. One-design keelboats and PHRF SoCal boats are eligible to participate.

Invited one-design classes are: Farr 40; J/109; J/105; J/80; J/70; Martin 242; Santana 30/30; Schock 35; Star; Tartan 101; and, Viper 640.

    This is my kinda sailing..after owning my own Sailing School, Charter biz, n rentals..and Sailing club…I was on the water everyday..and this by far is my favorite type of sailing…What a sport…!!….Love love it..
