On the Horizon is a summarized Notice of Race for upcoming select regattas along the Southern California Coast. This column will briefly rephrase rules, regulations, qualifications, fees, and awards.
35th Annual Jazz Cup (Sept. 2)
SAN FRANCISCO— On Sept. 2, the South Beach and Benicia Yacht Clubs will host the 35th Annual Jazz Cup. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing. All boats 18 feet and longer are eligible and shall have a 2023 Northern California PHRF or BAMA handicap certificate or be a class-legal, one design whose class is a member of SF Bay CBRA or US Sailing. Eligible boats must register and pay online at http://www.regattanetwork.com/event/26696. Only online entries and payments will be accepted. Entry fee is $125. Awards for first place in each division and the overall winner will be given based on corrected time. These awards will be mailed to the skipper’s address specified at the time of entry. The Jazz Cup Interclub Trophy will be awarded to the monohull boat with the best-corrected time and a valid PHRF certificate that is owned and sailed by a member of South Beach Yacht Club or Benicia Yacht Club. A trophy will be awarded to the Multi-Hull with the best-corrected time. This trophy will be mailed to the skipper’s address specified at the time of entry. 2023 J/24 Corinthian National Championship (Sept 6-10)
SAN DIEGO— From Sept. 6-10, the Southwestern Yacht Club will host the 2023 J/24 Corinthian National Championship. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. The sailing instructions on the online official notice board will be available by 7 p.m. on Sept. 5. The online official notice board is located at the event site or through the SWYC website. The regatta is open to all members of organizations affiliated with US Sailing. This is a Corinthian Regatta. Each crew member shall provide a valid World Sailing Group 1 status at registration. Entry is not complete until all requirements of Eligibility, Fees, Registration, and Inspection have been satisfactorily completed. The required entry fee is $300. Fannette Island Race (Sept. 10)
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE— The South Lake Tahoe Windjammers Yacht Club will host the Fannette Island Race on Sept. 10. This race will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. This regatta is open to monohulls with an LOA of 18 feet or greater. Boats shall hold a current PHRF rating. The race committee may assign or adjust a boat’s rating to comply with ratings established by the SLTWYC and/or Lake Tahoe PHRF Committee. A registration fee of $50 is applied to this race, and prizes will be awarded based on entries. The racing venue will be on the waters of South Lake Tahoe, with the starting and finishing line near Tahoe Keys.
