MISSION BAY — Children from a local YMCA enjoyed an afternoon of sailing in the bay during Mission Bay Yacht Club’s annual Sail Day in early December 2015.

The event hosted by the club’s Lido 14 Fleet experienced ideal sailing conditions when they took their 7- to 11-year-old guests out on the water.

Many of the children have never been on a sailboat and for some it was their first time on a vessel, according to Roger Hinton, an organizer of the event.

“The enthusiasm that they exhibited made it a joy to take them sailing,” he said.

On Dec. 5, the Mission Valley YMCA school bus dropped off 21 children to the yacht club where Lido 14 Fleet members greeted them. The children were then given a safety talk by fleet member Stan Betts and fitted for PFDs.

The Lido 14’s left the front dock at 10 a.m. and sailed around Sail Bay for two hours. A pizza lunch was provided for guests.

Mission Bay YC is already planning the next YMCA Sail Day, scheduled for Dec. 3. For more information about Sail Day and Mission Bay YC, visit mbyc.org.
