BCYC wins back Corinthian Cup

NEWPORT BEACH — The 10th annual Corinthian Cup took place the weekend of Oct. 17 with Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club taking back the cup.

“Great conditions made for great racing with heavy air on Saturday and light breeze on Sunday,” said Bahia Corinthian’s Cameron MacLaren. “This year we had a record number of entries, making it the most successful Corinthian Cup ever!”

Bahia Corinthian YC took back the Corinthian Cup Perpetual as the 2015 High Point Champions for the first time in six years, according to the club.

Thirty one Bahia Corinthian YC sailors competed in the regatta with 11 sailors finishing in the top five.

Participating clubs includes Newport Harbor Yacht Club (19 sailors); Balboa Yacht Club (16 sailors) and 11 from Lido Isle Yacht Club.

The regatta also attracted sailors from Long Beach Yacht Club, Dana Point Yacht Club, and Lake Mission Viejo Yacht Club.

Del Rey YC hosts ‘monster’ of a regatta

MARINA DEL REY — A total of 14 sailors participated in Del Rey Yacht Club’s Halloween Monster Mash Regatta, Oct. 17 in the annual race in the harbor.

Ninety sailors raced on the 8-10 nautical mile course that included a post-race party at the club that featured an all-inclusive roast beef dinner with drinks and an awards ceremony for best costume. Halloween themed games were also part of the fun along with a live jazz band.

PHRF Class Trophy Winners: 1st: MisQue, Jerry and Lea Kaye; 2nd: Crimson Star; 3rd: Wahzoo. Cruising Class Winners: 1st: Crossfire; 2nd: Duchess, Ron Jacobs; 3rd: Va Pensiero.
