Sailboats to race along San Diego Bay for a good cause

CORONADO — All hands are on-deck for the 13th annual Sharp HospiceCare Benefit Regatta scheduled to run Aug. 28-29. Hosted by Sharp HospiceCare, Coronado Yacht Club and Cortez Racing Association, the event will support Sharp HospiceCare’s Homes for Hospice program, which offers a unique environment for patients with a life-limiting illness, to meet their needs in a comfortable home setting.

The event kicks off Aug. 28 with a pre-race dinner, followed by all-day festivities on Aug. 29, when guests will board yachts and cruise along the race course. The race portion of the event starts at 1 p.m., Aug. 28 at the east end of Harbor Island, winds around San Diego Bay and finishes near Coronado YC. Competitors will race for a chance to compete in the 2016 Hospice Regattas National Championship.

All proceeds from the regatta support Sharp HospiceCare. This year’s event is expected to net $325,000 for Homes for Hospice.
