Lobster boat rescues deer 5 miles from shore off Maine

HARRINGTON, Maine—The crew aboard a lobster boat in Maine made an unexpected four-legged catch on Nov. 4. According to a Facebook post by the vessel’s captain, the crew spotted and rescued a deer found about five miles off the coast of the town of Harrington, drifting even further out to sea.

“Found this little guy five miles offshore today drifting farther away from land,” Capt. Ren Dorr wrote in the post. “Couldn’t let the poor guy suffer and drown so we brought him aboard and sailed him half hour to land and dropped him off on the beach! And sailed back out to haul!”

Photos accompanying the post showed the rescue as well as the deer huddling in a corner of the boat while being brought back to shore.
