Oracle Team USA Wins America's Cup Race 16

SAN FRANCISCO (LOG NEWS SERVICE) — Oracle Team USA continued its remarkable comeback Sept. 23 by winning its fifth consecutive race against Emirates Team New Zealand in the America’s Cup on San Francisco Bay.

Oracle Team USA
, in another wire-to-wire victory, beat the Kiwis by 33 seconds in Race 16, closing the Kiwis’ lead to 8-6. Oracle now needs just three more wins to successfully defend the America’s Cup. Challenger Emirates Team New Zealand still leads on the scoreboard and needs only one victory to win the America’s Cup.

Because light winds delayed the start of Race 16 for 30 minutes, Race 17, originally scheduled Sept. 23, was not sailed due to the 2:40 p.m. cutoff time for racing.

Race 17 is rescheduled to start at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, with Race 18 following at 2:15. Race officials have predicted much stronger winds for racing on Sept. 24.

Racing is scheduled to be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network.
