Sea lion found starving in San Diego restaurant on the mend

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Veterinarians say a starving sea lion rescued earlier this month after finding its way into a fancy San Diego restaurant is on the mend.
SeaWorld vets said that the 8-month-old female pup has put on about 4 pounds, and her bloodwork is encouraging.
The underweight and dehydrated sea lion was found Feb. 4 asleep in a dining booth at The Marine Room, an oceanfront restaurant in La Jolla.
The pup, nicknamed Marina, has been cared for at SeaWorld’s Animal Rescue Center. The San Diego Union-Tribune says experts remain cautiously optimistic about her recovery.
If all goes well and her weight continues to increase, vets say Marina could be released back into the ocean within the next six to eight weeks.
