Suspected Illegal Immigrants Held in Coronado

Byline: Associated Press

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Border Patrol agents detained a group of suspected illegal immigrants who may have used a small boat to cross into San Diego County from Mexico.

Authorities said agents spotted a panga boat and took several people into custody March 30 in Coronado. The small open boats are commonly used by smugglers to transport people and drugs across the border by sea.

Details weren’t immediately released, but witnesses told U-T San Diego that about eight men and women, all of them wet, were apprehended on the beach north of the landmark Hotel del Coronado.
