Two Southern California harbors nominated for Best Harbor of 2019
NATIONWIDE—A website offering tide charts, marine forecasts, weather buoy data and other navigational information for boaters and harbor users is asking for people to vote for the "Best Harbor" in the United States. Two Southern California harbors are among the 90 nominations. Harbors in Avalon and San Diego Bay are among the waterfront venues up for “Best Harbor of 2019.” USharbors.com would grant the title. Avalon Harbor is a popular destination for Southern California boaters, while San Diego has one of the highest concentrations of recreational boats on the West Coast. Other California harbors in the running: Holt/Whiskey Slough, Crescent City, Sausalito and Princeton. Crescent City is California’s northernmost harbor and close to the Oregon border; Holt/Whiskey Slough is on the California Delta, just west of Stockton. Sausalito, meanwhile, is located just north of San Francisco. Galilee Harbor, which is on the Sausalito Waterfront, is home to a cooperative of artists, liveaboards and maritime professionals. The census-designate place of Princeton is on the Sacramento River, northwest of Yuba City and southeast of Chico. “Nominated harbors include historic vacation destinations like Nantucket, Newport and Charleston; others are bustling hubs like New York, Boston and San Diego. Some of the nominated harbors have fun names like Whiskey Slough, Robinhood, and Nawiliwili. A few are famous for their unique brand of fun – we’re looking at you Provincetown,” USharbors.com staff said in a released statement. Maine, Massachusetts and New York dominated the list of nominated harbors, while states such as Alabama, Alaska and Hawai’i each have one harbor in the running.
