USA Continues Win Streak, Ties America’s Cup 8-8

SAN FRANCISCO (LOG NEWS SERVICE) — Oracle Team USA continued its astonishing winning streak with another two wins Sept. 24, forcing a winner-take-all race Sept. 25 for the 34th America’s Cup.

In the first race of the day Sept. 24 two penalties against Emirates Team New Zealand at the start helped Oracle Team USA skipper Jimmy Spithill win Race 17 by 27 seconds.

Oracle Team USA came from behind to win Race 18 by 54 seconds, tying the score at 8-8 and forcing a final race in the 34th America’s Cup Sept. 25 on San Francisco Bay.

The Kiwis, who have been on match point since Sept. 18 have watched their 8-1 lead slowly slip away as Oracle Team USA’s improved catamaran sailed ahead in a determined attempt to keep the oldest trophy in international sports.

Race 19 of the longest America’s Cup ever is scheduled to start at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 — and the winner will win the America’s Cup.
