‘Haunted Aquarium’ Offers Halloween Fun

LA JOLLA — With the setting of a spooky shipwreck, numerous fun and educational marine life-oriented activities, and live music from the zydeco band Billy Lee & the Swamp Critters to help attendees get up and “Boo-gie,” the 13th annual “Haunted Birch Aquarium: Shipwrecked!” promises a good time for the whole family.

The Halloween-theme event is open to all ages and is scheduled from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 25 and 26 at Birch Aquarium, at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego. Activities include the chance to make “slime” in a deep-sea slime lab, walk through a “whale fall” and learn about this unique habitat, touch a variety of mysterious live sea creatures, discover marine animals that glow in the dark, join in a costume contest to win a raffle prize and collect “tricky treats.”

Admission is $17 at the door. Advance tickets are $15 for the public, $12 for aquarium members and free for children 2 and younger. (The October Kids Free in San Diego offer applies only to aquarium general admission and does not apply at this special event.)

All children younger than 16 must be accompanied by a paid adult.

Birch Aquarium is located at 2300 Expedition Way, and parking is available. For more information, visit aquarium.ucsd.edu.
