LA PAZ, Mexico — Boaters curious about the third annual Cruisers Rally to El Salvador can attend a free seminar Nov. 20 at Marina de La Paz, located near downtown in this Baja California Sur cruising port.
“We’ll be sharing all the details about the rally events, prizes and schedule,” said organizer Jean Strain of the sailing vessel Mita Kuuuluu, “plus a presentation about the little country of El Salvador and why it has become such a great cruising destination.”
The La Paz seminar will be the second in a series of pre-rally informational sessions about the Cruisers Rally to El Salvador — which will be scheduled over a seven-week period in Spring 2012. The first seminar was held in San Diego in October.
Additional seminars on El Salvador and the rally are planned for Dec. 4 at Marina Mazatlan and for Dec. 14 and Jan. 18 at La Cruz Yacht Club in Marina Riviera Nayarit. Seminars are also planned for February at Huatulco in southern Mexico and possibly at the new Marina Chiapas.
March 3 is the last day for boaters to join the rally, which is free to enter.
As more details are announced about the seminars and the rally, they will be posted at elsalvadorrally.blogspot.com/p/about-rally.html.
The El Salvador pre-rally seminars will provide boaters with an opportunity to meet others heading south at approximately the same pace and with the same general itinerary and destinations in mind.
“You can travel at your own pace with a group of your own making,” Strain said. “Or, go by yourself, as you enjoy late winter traveling down the Mexican Gold Coast for a springtime arrival at Bahia del Sol, El Salvador.”
The Cruisers Rally to El Salvador begins March 10 with an Opening Day Party at Marina Bahia del Sol, but Strain said boaters may start arriving a few days in advance, to get settled in before the first party starts.
Seven weeks of activities, events and special tours will unfold as cruising boats — sail and power — continue to arrive at Bahia del Sol. A closing ceremony is set for April 29, with a buffet dinner, live music and big prize drawings.
“You can arrive anytime before April 29 — but the later you arrive, the more things you will miss,” Strain said. “At the 2011 rally party, we gave away over $3,500 in cash and prizes — and every boat won something.”
