SAN DIEGO COUNTY

San Diego Bay

Aug. 2 • 10:30 a.m.San Diego Harbor Police officers cited a vessel operator near Buoy 38 for not having appropriate personal floatation devices.

Aug. 4 • 9:20 a.m. Harbor Police officers arrested a subject aboard his boat near Shelter Island on outstanding warrants.

Aug. 7 • 1 p.m. Harbor Police officers de-watered a vessel taking on water near Buoy 7 at the bay entrance. The vessel was towed to safety at the Shelter Island launch ramp. While assisting the subject, officers reportedly discovered the operator was in violation of a restraining order and arrested the boater.

Aug. 7 • 8:20 p.m. Harbor Police officers cited the operator of a vessel for having improper lighting.

Aug. 11 • 6:22 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of a man jumping from a vessel anchored near the San Diego-Coronado Bridge. Harbor Police vessels and divers, Coast Guard vessels and a helicopter were on the scene to search for the man. After searching for about 40 minutes, Harbor Police divers located the man and immediately began CPR. San Diego Fire Department personnel arrived and continued CPR, but were unable to resuscitate the man.

Aug. 11 • 9:30 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of someone dumping ammunition into the bay near South Marina park. On  Aug. 13, at 2 p.m. Harbor Police divers retrieved 41 rounds of inert training (25mm) military ordnance at 2 p.m. Aug. 13. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Aug. 12 • 10:20 a.m. Harbor Police officers cited a vessel operator near Shelter Island for sanding without proper environmental protection.

Aug. 13 • 6 p.m. Harbor Police officers cited a vessel operator for possession of lobsters out of season, near Dana Landing.

Aug. 14 • 1:15 p.m. Harbor Police officers assisted the operator of a small catamaran that capsized near the Coronado Cays. No injuries were reported.

Aug. 18 • 4:30 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of a speeding vessel in Glorietta Bay. The boat’s operator was cited.

Aug. 21 • 2:20 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of a vessel accident near Buoy 34 in San Diego Bay. Two large yachts reportedly caused a wake, which in turn reportedly caused a 10-foot skiff to capsize. No injuries were reported.

 

Mission Bay

Aug. 8 • 4:17 p.m. San Diego Lifeguard Service Harbor Patrol personnel responded to a report of a vessel accident at East Mission Bay Drive. An injured person was transported to a local hospital before San Diego lifeguards arrived.

Aug. 8 • 6:47 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a disabled vessel with two people on board.

Aug. 9 • 3:18 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel accident at Fiesta Bay.

Aug. 10 • 1:53 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel in distress at Kendall-Frost Mission Bay Marsh Reserve.

Aug. 10 • 7:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a possible boat fire off Torrey Pines State Beach.

Aug. 13 • 11:43 a.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a personal watercraft inside the surf line. Lifeguards cited the operator.

Aug. 14 • 12:04 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of two personal watercraft inside the surf line off the Ocean Beach Pier. Lifeguards cited one PWC operator.

Aug. 14 • 1:18 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of vessel fire at Fiesta Bay. The vessel owner was able to extinguish the fire, and there were no reported injuries. The vessel was towed to the dock.

Aug. 14 • 1:34 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel adrift, dragging its anchor at Mariners Cove. The vessel was towed off the beach and its anchor was reset, with no damage reported.

Aug. 14 • 2:03 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel aground at West Mission Bay Bridge. The 12-foot rental skiff was reportedly on the rocks with one person on board. The vessel was towed off the rocks and its passengers were transferred to a chase boat.

Aug. 14 • 6 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a disabled 18-foot rental vessel off Sunset Cliffs.

Aug. 15 • 4:26 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a disabled 17-foot runabout boat off Sunset Cliffs. The vessel was towed outside the surf line, where Vessel Assist took over the tow.

Aug. 16 • 2:41 a.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel sinking near Marina Village.

Aug. 16 • 1:42 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a personal watercraft in distress at Government Island. The operator was unable to remount the vessel.

Aug. 17 • 7:17 a.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a 16-foot runabout aground at West Fiesta Island, with no people on board. The vessel was impounded.

Aug. 17 • 5:04 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a 22-foot sloop aground in the sand at Mariner’s Basin.

Aug. 18 • 3:05 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a speeding personal watercraft with two people on board at Boomer Beach.

Aug. 18 • 3:25 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel in distress south of Crown Point, with smoke coming out of it. Lifeguards reported it was only steam, and the vessel was cleared.

Aug. 19 • 1:06 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a kayak accident at La Jolla Shores.

Aug. 19 • 1:50 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of an overdue personal watercraft. The operator was last seen between Crown Point and Santa Clara. The personal watercraft and the operator were located.

Aug. 19 • 4:26 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a disabled vessel at Sunset Cliffs. The 17-foot runabout powerboat was towed by Vessel Assist.

Aug. 19 • 5:57 p.m. Harbor Patrol lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel dead in the water with three people on board, at Fiesta Bay.

ORANGE COUNTY

Dana Point Harbor

Aug. 12 • 8:43 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers assisted with a boat tow of a 27-foot Catalina located 1.5 miles from the entrance.

Aug. 13 • 10:48 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a fuel spill near “K” Dock.

Aug. 13 • 3:51 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with a boat tow from the outer channel.

Aug. 17 • 2:58 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a person overboard from a 17-foot vessel near a local yacht club.

Aug. 18 • 2:56 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a stolen boat near “D” Dock, in West Basin.

Aug. 20 • 5:29 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with a rescue of a sailboat near the surfline off Capistrano Beach.

Aug. 22 • 6:03 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a vessel that reportedly lost power at the west jetty. The vessel was towed to safety.

Aug. 18 • 2:56 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of stolen boat at “D” Dock, in West Basin.

Aug. 23 • 3:48 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with a rescue of a 41-foot sailboat that was reportedly in danger of hitting rocks at the harbor entrance.

Newport Harbor

Aug. 11 • 8:55 a.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat colliding with a submerged vessel near the Chart House restaurant.

Aug. 12 • 11:18 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a capsized small sailboat near Arches Bridge.

Aug. 12 • 8:11 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with a boat tow of a 21-foot electric boat at Bay Island.

Aug. 13 • 4:58 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a 35-foot disabled trawler that was adrift, heading toward the rocks at the harbor entrance.

Aug. 14 • 9 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted an 18-foot boat with four people on board that was reportedly taking on water. The vessel was escorted back to Newport Dunes.

Aug. 18 • 6:42 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an electric runabout boat aground at Bayside Village, with a family and their dog on board.

Aug. 20 • 2:38 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with towing an electric runabout boat with three people on board to Lido Soud.

Aug. 21 • 9:36 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a speeding boat near the Pacific Coast Highway Bridge.

 

Sunset/Huntington Harbour

Aug. 10 • 11:19 a.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a possible boat accident and fire near the Pacific Coast Highway Bridge. Officers found no fire — just an overheated boat engine. The vessel was towed back to the launch ramp.

Aug. 12 • 11:29 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a speeding 36-foot powerboat near the main channel at Trinidad Island.

Aug. 20 • 8:57 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of 10-foot inflatable dinghy found off “A” Dock. The registered owner stated he had sold the boat. A message was left with the new owner.

Aug. 22 • 7:12 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a strong odor and a possible oil sheen on the water from an unknown source at Gilbert Island.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY

Marina del Rey

Aug. 15 • 5:22 p.m. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Marine Enforcement deputies responded to a disturbing the peace call and contacted an adult man. He was cooperative and ceased the disturbance.

Aug. 17 • 3:48 p.m. Marine Enforcement deputies cited an adult man for a Fish and Game Code violation in the Mother’s Beach area.

Aug. 19 • 6:46 a.m. Boat deputies responded to a report of a sinking vessel at “A” Dock. The boat crew applied pumps and stabilized the 36-foot vessel.

Aug. 19 • 11:24 a.m. Marine Enforcement deputies conducted an investigation for possible trespassing on “A” Dock. Deputies arrested an adult man on an outstanding warrant.

VENTURA COUNTY

Channel Islands Harbor

Aug. 9 • 9:05 a.m. Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 29-foot vessel disabled at the harbor entrance. The vessel was towed to a local boatyard.

Aug. 10 • 1:30 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an infant in the water off Hollywood Beach. The infant was pulled from the water by a family member and was reported to be in good condition.

Aug. 14 • 3:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a person in the water, surrounded by debris. The subject said his 15-foot boat had sunk and that he was not injured. Vessel Assist was contacted to locate the submerged vessel.

Aug. 14 • 5:40 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a personal watercraft disabled near the surfline at the La Janelle parking lot. A Ventura County lifeguard kept the vessel out of the surf until the patrol boat arrived on scene. The vessel was towed to a local marina.

Aug. 14 • 6:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 27-foot vessel disabled in the main basin. The vessel was towed to a local marina.

Aug. 19 • 6:05 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 29-foot vessel disabled near the dredge pond. The vessel was reportedly able to restart its engine and proceed under power.

Aug. 20 • 4:45 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a call from a charter vessel that was inbound with an unconscious passenger. Ventura County Emergency Medical Services was notified and the patient was transported to a local hospital.

Ventura Harbor

Aug. 9 • 2:55 p.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled vessel off Surfer’s Knoll. Officers reportedly found the vessel had flipped as its occupants had attempted to tow a person. Officers took the vessel into tow and released it at the launch ramp. They also recovered items from the beach and returned them to the owner.

Aug. 12 • 2:10 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled vessel in front of the breakwater. Officers took the vessel in tow and released it at the launch ramp.

Aug. 13 • 4:58 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled vessel up the coast from the pier. Officers took the vessel in tow and released it at the launch ramp.

Aug. 14 • 3 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled inflatable boat at the harbor entrance. Officers took the vessel in tow and released it at the launch ramp.

Aug. 18 • 3:39 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled personal watercraft on the beach in the Pierpoint area. Officers swam the craft off the beach and towed it to the launch ramp.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY

Santa Barbara Harbor

Aug. 13 • 6:50 a.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of boat taking on water one-half mile east of Stearns Wharf. Officers reportedly found a 35-foot sailboat with only 1 foot of freeboard. Officers used two pumps to dewater the vessel and then towed the boat into the harbor. The wooden-planked vessel was reportedly leaking at the seams and was hauled out.

Aug. 14 • 9:10 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a missing boat when two boat partners paid for a visitor slip and went to retrieve their vessel from a mooring east of Stearns Wharf. They found the vessel was gone. Officers discovered the boat under sail about 1 mile east of the mooring. Officers reportedly found one operator aboard who claimed he had found the boat adrift while he was fishing and had saved it from going aground. The subject was praised for his actions, taken aboard the patrol boat and handcuffed. Officers found no fishing gear aboard, and the cabin lock and ignition switch were both reportedly broken. According to police reports, the boat’s occupant was determined to be a registered sex offender and a parolee, who reportedly told officers his ankle monitor fell off when it got wet. He was transported to the harbor and arrested by waiting police officers.

Aug. 16 • 9:15 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel adrift, just east of Stearns Wharf. The reporting party was fending the boat off his anchored vessel. The boat was towed into the harbor and its owner was notified. The boat owner stated he had purchased a used anchor chain, but said he suspected foul play was the reason for the parted chain.
