Port of L.A. announces summer waterfront schedule

SAN PEDRO –The Port of Los Angeles has announced the waterfront’s summer season of events and entertainment for the entire family.

Added to the 2014 summer lineup is the Tall Ships Festival L.A. 2014, the grand opening of the Downtown Harbor and free family movie nights featuring a film projected from a floating barge over San Pedro Bay.

“The summer events on the L.A. Waterfront are about bringing community together,” said Gary Lee Moore, the port’s interim executive director. “These port-supported events also allow us to showcase the L.A. Waterfront, which has become a destination for both residents and visitors to enjoy.”

On Friday, June 20, San Pedro’s new Downtown Harbor public plaza will open to the public during a special celebration schedule to run from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will feature live music, jugglers and activities for children. The new 1.2-acre space on the north side of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum will open new access and leisure opportunity for pedestrians and boaters.

From Aug. 20 to 24, Tall Ships® Festival LA 2014 will take over the L.A. Waterfront, featuring more than a dozen international and domestic tall ships sailing in from across the Pacific. The five-day festival features boat tours, dockside demonstrations, maritime-themed entertainment, a children’s pirate camp, and arts and crafts, Tickets for the event can be purchased at tallshipsfestivalla.com or call (877) 4FLY-TIX.
