SD Boat Parade Decorating Seminar Set
Byline: The Log Staff
SAN DIEGO — Boaters planning on decorating boats for the annual Parade of Lights on San Diego Bay can take advantage of a free lighting seminar scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Point Loma West Marine store, at 3717 Rosecrans St.
The West Marine crew will offer expert tips on how to use onboard lighting correctly, safely and most effectively for the upcoming holiday event.
This year’s San Diego Parade of Lights theme is scheduled for Dec. 8 and Dec. 15. “Big Bay Toy Parade” has been selected as the theme for this year’s boat parade, which begins at 5:30 p.m. both Sundays on San Diego Bay.
The parade route will proceed from Shelter Island past Harbor Island, the Embarcadero, Seaport Village and the Ferry Landing in Coronado.
More than 100 boats are expected to enter this year’s event, and all participants are eligible to win a variety of prizes and awards. The entry fee is $40 and covers participation in both nights of the parade, plus tickets to a post-parade awards banquet in January 2014.
Entries will be judged on lighting, music, special effects and originality, in 15 award categories. All entrants who participate will be entered in a drawing to win a seven-day cruise from Star Clippers — and all parade participants will receive special recognition plaques.
