California Yacht Brokers Association Elects Officers

Byline: The Log Staff

The California Yacht Brokers Association (CYBA) elected new officers at its annual membership meeting, Jan. 7.

Current board member Dennis Moran of Ardell Yacht & Ship Brokers in Newport Beach was chosen as president, Ron Gullan of Yachtfinders/Windseakers Yacht Sales was named first vice president, J.R. Means of Bayport Yachts in Newport Beach was selected as second vice president, Ryan Eastman of West Coast Yachts in Newport Beach was picked as secretary and Jim Johnson of Chuck Hovey Yachts in San Diego was elected to return as treasurer.

The association welcomed three new members to the board of directors: J.R. Means, Chris Simpson of Discovery Bay Yachts in Northern California and Ryan Eastman. Joining them are returning board members Jim Johnson, Dean West, Ron Gullan, Nick Friedman and immediate past president Tom Trainor.

The California Yacht Brokers Association was founded on Jan. 29, 1975. The nonprofit organization of yacht brokers and salespeople is dedicated to conducting business with integrity, dignity and a high standard of professionalism.

To join the association, a member must be sponsored by two broker members, reviewed by the membership committee and approved by the board of directors. CYBA members have joined forces to provide services to the brokerage industry, as well as to protect California boat buyers and sellers. CYBA’s Code of Ethics provides an industry standard for professional conduct.

California was the first state to require yacht brokers and sales personnel to be licensed and bonded. The efforts of CYBA go far beyond what is required by law to offer consumer protection and enhanced services to the boating public. Examples of the association’s efforts include standardized forms and an arbitration process to settle disputes between consumers and brokers.             For more information, visit cyba.org.
