Night Zip Line Eco Tour Opens at Catalina Island

AVALON — Visiting boaters will be able to explore Catalina in an entirely different light by taking the new Night Zip Line Eco Tour, which opened Dec. 16.

The new tour offers a two-hour adventure, which starts when riders step off a platform high above the ocean’s edge into total darkness — according to the billing for the new attraction. The tour covers three-quarters of a mile on five separate zip lines, with suspended riders reaching speeds of nearly 45 mph at heights of up to 300 feet above Descanso Canyon.

While Night Zip Line riders speed over the island, suspended by the zip lines under the stars and the moon, platforms are illuminated by sustainable solar lighting. At each station on the five-line tour, guides will talk about the ecology and biodiversity of the island, providing insight about Catalina’s nocturnal wildlife, along with island history.

The cost varies seasonally from $109 to $120. Tours depart from Descanso Beach Club at dusk year-round. During the winter, tours will be offered on Friday and Saturday evenings with daily operation set to begin in spring.

Reservations are recommended. Call (800) 626-1496 or go to visitcatalinaisland.com.
