Wooden Boat Festival returns to Balboa YC
NEWPORT BEACH — Wooden boat aficionados will enjoy a day admiring classic boats during the second annual Balboa Yacht Club Wooden Boat Show, Saturday, June 6. The festival is free to the public.
Boats of all shapes and sizes will be on display, including the legendary 139-foot schooner America. Kayaks, canoes, runabouts, sailboats, power boats, steam launch and skiffs from 3- to 80-feet in length and over will be featured at the show. A total of 50 exceptional boats were scheduled to be in attendance at press time.
Vessels will be on exhibit both on land and in the water. Owners will also be on site to answer questions about all the time and care that went into preserving the boats.
The nautical-themed day will include marine artwork on exhibit by Scott Kennedy, Lorelle Miller and Laguna Beach Festival of Art artists. The “Knot Guy” Lyndsey Philpott will be in attendance along with representatives from Challenged America and Western Marine Marketing. The Dave Stephens Band will provide swing music during the festival.
Guests can enjoy a barbeque meal for a nominal fee. Tickets are also available for purchase for a sail aboard America. Price is $75 for the 2.5-hour sails. Reservations can be made at bycwoodenboatfestival.com.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol will have its doors open to visitors who would like to take a tour of the facility in celebration of its 40th anniversary.
The second annual Wooden Boat Festival is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Balboa Yacht Club, 1601 Bayside Drive. A complimentary shuttle to the festival will pick up guests who park at the Corporate Plaza located at 1801 Bayside Drive.
