MARINA DEL REY — The 48th annual Sunset Series begins Wednesday, April 11 at California Yacht Club, giving Southern California sailors the chance to participate in a time-honored event.
The series, which originated in 1964, is the largest sailboat regatta on Santa Monica Bay, with 21 scheduled races of eight boat classes. Traditionally, around 75 sailboats participate.
Races are run every Wednesday (except July 4) through Sept. 5, and racing classes star in five-minute intervals beginning at 5:55 p.m. After racing each Wednesday, participants gather at California YC for refreshments, barbecue and camaraderie.
On April 4, one week prior to the Sunset Series kickoff, a free informative racing seminar will be held at California YC at 7 p.m., with presentations on racing rules, the racing course, starting signals and navigation.
Sail numbers and cruising class ratings can be obtained by contacting Steve Curran at firstname.lastname@example.org or (310) 821-8300.
