Partake in a Tahitian experience in Two Harbors

Harbor Sands, a revitalized beach on Catalina Island, is an oasis for boaters.

TWO HARBORS ― Boaters visiting Catalina Island’s East End can enjoy a revitalized beach with resort-style amenities. Harbor Sands, located west of the pier in Two Harbors, will be open to the public May 7.

On the beach at Harbor Sands, one can encounter a Tahitian ambiance with Two Harbors’ allure while relaxing in an inviting cushioned palapa surrounded by white sand sipping a cocktail delivered directly to the covered couches by servers from Harbor Reef Restaurant.

Palapa on the beach of Harbor Sands at Two Harbors in Catalina IslandThis revitalized beachfront project includes “six rustic palapas that comfortably accommodate eight, and several pairs of chaise lounges, ideal for boaters to come ashore and relax in the sun. Your Harbor Reef favorites (both food and beverages) can be delivered right to your palapa or chaise. Service will be available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the spring, summer, and fall. Under foot is new, imported white sand, for comfortable walking and enjoyment,” Kristin Leigh Metcalfe, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Catalina Island Company, wrote in an email to The Log.

Boaters can cruise over to Harbor Sands and moor their vessels in one of more than 200 moorings in Two Harbors.

“All moorings in Two Harbors are perfectly accessible to the revitalized beach,” Metcalfe stated. “There are 254 moorings available in Two Harbors itself. When the stringline is added (Memorial Day through Labor Day for boats that are 25’ or less in length), that number rises to 296.”

More information about Harbor Sands and the prices to rent a palapa per day are available on the Catalina Island Company’s website.   Moorings can be rented upon arrival based on availability or reserved in advance at visitcatalinaisland.com/two-harbors/mooring-reservations.

In Two Harbors, shoreboat service is available, and Harbor Patrol can be reached on VHF Channel 09.
